Sandstone painting is a new kind style which created by the TuJia minoritys people - Li Junsheng, which adopts the colored sand, stones, and plants that dont give off color as its pigment sticking to form a new type of painting.

Sandstones need experience the procedure of grinding, washing, basking, sieving, and layering the different colored sands, after being collected from nature. Then sprinkle the sandstone by layers onto canvas in hands according to different needs. Plants as materials need be collected from different seasons. Before it becomes true pigment, it needs to experience the procedure of fuming, steaming, shining, and protecting from rot and wet. The plants are cut into pieces and stick onto the canvas by hands. During the process of creation, the orders, equity, thickness of sprinkling the pigment are very important. After the completion of the painting, a protective membrane (glue) needs be paved, in order to protect it from rot and wet.

This type of painting takes the sandstone from Zhajiajie to depict Zhangjiajie itself, depict nature by nature materials. The materials itself are the object to depict.
